Tra Ocala e il fiume St.Johns la più grande foresta di pini marittimi copre 148.000 ettari attraversata da fiumi e percorsi per escursioni. e’ uno degli ultimi rifugi dell’orso nero della florida, protetto, oltre ad ospitare molti animali più comuni. Si possono avvistare molti uccelli soprattutto nelle zone paludose dei corsi d’acqua. Vi sono tanti percorsi di varie lunghezze da passerelle e sentieri fino a 1,5 km fino all’intero percorso in tutta la lunghezza della foresta per 106 km con percorso panoramico nazionale interstatale. Nei molti laghi della foresta si pesca molto, soprattutto il pesce persico, vi sono poi laghetti per nuotare, zone da pic nic, campeggi, zone ricreative come Salt Springs o Alexander Springs. In ogni luogo si può noleggiare una canoa, il percorso di canoa è lungo 11 km e parte dalla zona ricreativa di Juniper Springs, gradite le prenotazioni. Un buon punto per il bird watching è lungo il Salt Springs Trail. Si possono avere informazioni e guide al principale centro visitatori sul lato occidentale della foresta o nei centri di Salt Springs e Lake Dorr, entrambi sulla route 19. La foresta è sempre aperta, il pagamento è ristretto ai camping e aree ricreative, accessibile ai disabili. Il centro turistico principale è presso 3199 NE County Road. Nei dintorni: Silver River State Park, vari laghi, country club e golf club.
