Penrith Castle is located in the town centre opposite to the train station, in the Castle Park off Castlegate.

Built around 1399 and improved and added to over the years.The ruins that can be seen today date from about 1483 and are built of sandstone.You can still see the layout of the castle but only parts of the walls and towers remain intact.The Red Tower and the kitchen area are still recognizable.
Penrith Castle is also named the Castle of the Kings.King Richard III resided here.
The site is owned by English Heritage and open daily. Admission to Penrith Castle is free.
There are car parks close to the Castle ruins and a small car park to the front of the castle.
