NAVAL MUSEUM
Hello!! Yesterday is 30th August so this day is really important day in Turkiye. It is a national holiday which is called Victory Day.
There are a lot of celebration in this day for joining but last two years i like to visit some museums. Last year i was visiting Aviation Museum ( Havacilik Müzesi) and this year i was thinking about to visit Naval Museum ( Denizcilik Müzesi) where is located in Beşiktaş. In this case i was visiting this nice museum. Before writing about my experiences about there i would like to write about the opening times and the fee. Naval museum is opened daily except Monday and Tuesday. About the hours -please be careful about this- because it start 09.30 a.m and closed 05.30 p.m. but from 12.30a.m to 01.30p.m there is a break for the workers in the museum. If i talk about the fee i did not paid any fee because in Victory day it is free to visit this museums. But if you like to visit there different times you should paid 5Ytl for entering and if you like to take photos you must give 6Ytl.
If we talk about the township of museum is located in Beşiktaş where is almost really historical and have great natural beauty. The museum is stayed in the area called Iskele near the sea and the Beşiktaş pier. While you are walking straight away from Dolmabahçe Palace in the left side you can see the museum.
If you think about how to go this museum it is really easy and there are some alternatives that you can choose. The first option is buses. There are a lot of buses pass away from the in front and you should stop in Iskele station. The buses names are probably Beşiktaş, Rumeli Hisarı, Bebek..... from Taksim if you are coming from European side. If you are stay in Anatolian side i definitely recommend you sea busses which have a station near the museum. Another option is tramway which is really new for this area. But if you choose this one you have agreed walking a little times. It will takes 10 15 minutes.
Before talking about history i like to write about my experience. In the museum really handsome guy with navy uniform welcomes you with smiling face. Than at the left side there is a gift shop where is completely perfect that you can find really really interesting things for buying. I am a magnet collector and i buy a really nice magnet with the picture of battleship on it. There is a big differences from the other gift shops because of prices. The objects are sold really less money and you can not want to miss the chance to buy something from there. At the right side there is a westie room if you like to use it. The fist building has two floor and now i am in the fist floor. In this floor there are two
small and a big room. One of small L room is about Atatürk and his personal stuff about the navy. It is a really interesting room that you can find an area with a room of ship design of Sayananora which was the ship of Atattürk. Another small room is about the inside of ship which was used in Ottoman times. And finally the big room. It is also called Kuzey room has a lot of stuff from the different battleship. There are a lot of guns, maps, some kind of stuffs of battle ships. After visiting this room you can go to second floor which has two big rooms and many small rooms ( i do not know how many) on them. In this rooms again there are a lot stuffs from the battleship. But for this floor i will say that interesting thing is in there there are a lot of rooms which are rooms of important soldiers from the history. I am really interested in the life of Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha in this case i spent many times in his room. After visiting there the firs building have done now you can visit the second building or the garden. If we are talking about the garden it is really beautiful with nice stuffs. In the garden a map of America welcomes you. This is an amazing map which was made by Piri Reis in 1513. The garden is almost beautiful with nice sea viewing. After visiting the garden you can enter the second building which has two floor again. These collections are really awesome that i really like it. I found it really really interesting. There are a lot of real ships which are used in Ottoman times. After visiting this building visiting the museum have finished.
Now i would like to write about the history of the museum. The museum which was firstly opened in 1897 with the name Sea Museum. During the second World War the collections of museum were moved to Anatolia for saving them. After the war they come back their museum again and they are displayed there since from the that time.
My final words about there if you like anything about naval you should come and see. And i really recommend the people who has children especially son must see. Because boys are really interested in that kind of thing. After visiting this museum you feel that you do not waste of your time in there.
