The marine and coastal ecosystems of the island are important due to their great diversity of marine life that includes many endemic species which make it a destination for both divers and ecologists.
Inland there are several important archaeological sites including those found at Sa Caleta and Puig des Molins whilst the Upper Town of Alta Vila is an example of Renaissance military architecture with its fortifications.
