[di più]Queen's College, Cambridge was founded in 1448 by Margaret of Anjou (and also by Elizabeth Woodville). The college buildings are situated on either side of the river Cam and are joined by the world-famous Mathematical Bridge. First erected 20 years after the death of Isaac Newton, legend suggests (wrongly) that it was built without bolts or nails. On the city side it leads to the red-brick President's Lodge which is the oldest building (1460) on the river bank. The original college buildings are known as Old Court and surround the medieval Old Hall, built in 1449. Several buildings enclose the quadrangle lawn and there is a Chapel which was constructed in 1891.
Opening hours:
Apart from Christmas and the annual examination period (May 22 - June 24) the grounds, buildings and the bridge are open to the public for a varying number of hours daily.
Admission charges:
At certain times a charge of £1.50 per visitor is made; at others, admission is free.
Full details of hours and charging times are included on the web site.
Visitors should enter via the Visitor's Gate in Queens Lane.
There is no parking on site.
Parking is also quite limited in Cambridge City centre but there are Park and Ride Schemes which are easily accessible.
