[di più]Caerwent Roman Town was a market town of the Silures which dates from 75 A.D and was known as Venta Silurum. The site comprised an area of roughly 44 acre and excavations have uncovered walls of up to 5.2m as well as the original, central forum-basilica and a temple circa 330 A.D. There are also the remains of shops which date from 150 A.D.
Some artefacts from the period are on display in the local church and the West Gate barns offers a panel display as well as an introductory talk once per week. Guided group tours are also available. The site is located off the M48 approximately 18km from Newport. It forms part of the Heritage Trail and is administered by Cadw.
