[di più]St. Peters Anglican Parish Church was built to meet the needs of the growing population of Brighton in the 1820's. The architect, Charles Barry at 28 years of age, won the design competition held with his Gothic revival plan and started the construction in 1824. By 1828 the Church was completed. He later designed the Houses of Parliament in London, for which he was knighted. The Churches apse was demolished and redesigned by Somers Clarke in 1906. Whilst the original structure was built of Portland Stone, the new apse was built of sandstone. The Church has a ring of ten bells.
The Church Hall can be rented and live concerts are often on venue.
Sunday Services are at 10am and 6pm, Wednesday's mass is at 10am and Fridays at 12.30pm. Children's Church is proposed before the Sunday Mass at 9.30am during term time, for 5 to 10 year old children.
The Church is open to the public from Tuesday to Sundays, and a "coffee shop" is held in the Hall on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. Cakes, sandwiches, tea and coffee are sold and proceeds are donated to charity.
Saint Peter's is situated at the junction of London road and Lewes road, just at the end of Victoria Gardens, in the heart of the town.
