[di più]The Mahabodi Temple Complex is listed by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee as a site of architectural and religious importance and is one of four holy sites linked to the life of the Buddha. Emperor Ashoka built the first temple at Bodh Gaya in the 3rd Century BC, but the temple now standing on the site is later, dating to the 5th or 6th century. This temple stands 50m high and is built entirely of brick.
The location is believed to be the place where the Buddha achieved enlightenment. In addition to the main temple, there are another seven sites where the Buddha meditated which also lie within the temple complex.
