[di più]The Vijay Vilas Palace is also called the Mandvi Palace. It was constructed as a Royal residence in 1920 and stands in 450 acres of landscaped gardens with fountains and water channels. The Palace has its own 2 kilometre long section of private beach and is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region. It has provided the setting for several Bollywood films.
The architectural style is similar to that seen in many buildings in Bengal and draws its style from many different influences with large umbrella like domes, Classical columns and Victorian style arches.
There is no charge to visit the palace and visitors are welcome to walk around many parts of the palace. Guided tours of the building are available for a small fee, which take the visitor to the more private areas of the building.
